Hi,

I beleive my graphics card has decided to end its life and almost mine aswell, after 5 minutes of the computer being turned on I started up a game and while loading i heard a bang and the computer shut off, i quickly turned the power off at the wall and unplugged everything, smoke pouring out the case i left it for a few minutes while watching it to make sure it didnt start a fire.
Upon opening the the case i noticed the graphics card has a black burnt out spot on the back it was a little rectangular peice on the board next to a capacitor, what is this?

The mb doesnt have on board graphics and i get one long two short beeps when trying to start up so i will obviously need a new gfx card to test if the rest is okay?

Its a galaxy 9600gt quite old but was working fine untill now, psu is 550watt coolermaster reasonably new and the mb is only a few months old.

What are the chances something else has caused this or other things are dead from this happening?

Much appreciated,
Ben

Solution
Even without a GPU you should still be able to turn the computer on? If you cant turn it on i would check another power supply if possible. If it still doesn't turn on you might have to get a new motherboard.

Another thing if your power supply has detachable cables take everything out other than the 24 pin (main) and 8 pin (cpu) with just those two plugged in see if you can get the computer to turn on and get to the bios.
