Graphics card causing computer to power off

So I came home today and my computer suddenly won't power up. I figured out through trial and error that whenever I plug the video card in the computer shuts down. The computer runs fine when the video card is not plugged in but when you connect the cord from the power supply the computer shuts off instantly. I have a 1000 watt power supply and a r9 280x video card. The power supply has worked for months but I'm worried the video card may have clunked oit on me. Any idea what's going on here?

Test the video card in another system.

Another thing, you are not plugging and unplugging the card while the system is on are you? That would be bad to do.

If the card works fine in another system, try yours with a different power supply.
