I am running two 24'' 1080p screens, and need to choose between the MSI NVidia GeForce GTX 970 or 980. will be doing mild overclocking, (never done before) and will be doing Sim racing mostly. I am a photographer by trade and so use hi powered photo editing software also.

My personal view is to get the almost £200 cheaper 970 card, but would like some advice. This is a first time pc build.

Well. Both cards are awesome. For gaming, I would go for the 970 - as it provides me with satisfaction. If I were not only to game but also edit and so on, I'll buy the 980.

If money is no concern, I would choose the best of the two. If it is, 970 should be sufficient. From the benchmarks I've seen, 980 performs at average about 10~20% better.

Here is a very detailed reference review of the two cards:

will bear this in mind also, may use a third monitor in future, and will be doing both gaming and editing. would like the card to last as long as possible - don't want to upgrade for at least a few years. will see if I can stretch my budget I think. that guide you linked was very helpful, will give it a proper look over in a bit.
