Hello,

I have a relatively old system which consists of:

Gigabyte X48T-DQ6 motherboard,
intel Q9300 CPU,
GeForce 8800 GT Sonic Graphics Card,
2x4 GB Corsair vengeance DDR3 1600MHz CL9 RAM,
128 GB Sandisk SSD,
1 TB WD HDD

and I am going to buy a new graphics card. Will MSI GTX970 work on my system?

(It may seem absurd but I am going to buy a new motherboard and cpu in a short while, this is a temporary situation)

Thanks in advance.

You should be good. You might have problems with your voltage/PSU though. Specs and Model number of PSU please?

I have a 460 W Cooler Master Case and PSU but I don't know the model specifically. I can give you model name if you can tell me where I can learn it. Thanks.

It looks like you should be good for the GPU, however, a new motherboard means a new CPU, and new CPUs drain power crazily. As of now, you use just over 230 Watts of your available 420. With the new GPU, you will jump up to around 300. With a new CPU(say, Intel I5) you will be nearing the 375 mark, and while it does say 420, its safe to stay around 5% off of that. So, you should be good, but the next thing to upgrade is the PSU.

Thank you for your help. I will upgrade the PSU and maybe the case, too when I get a new motherboard and CPU. Thank you again :).
