Graphics Card / CPU Recommendation / Game - For Honor @ 1920x1200

Hey folks, need some thoughts from any experts in the field.

Currently running For Honor with:

AMD Phenom II 965 Black Edition
Nvidia GTX 560Ti 1GB
6GB DDR2 Ram

(HA! antiquated i know!) Though it plays rather well to be honest, but the game becomes heavily unresponsive at times in CQB in that my moves end up being delayed a few seconds, or just don't happen, tried and tested vsing off against the AI. (Yes, i can play rather well at 25-30 FPS @1900x1200)


Now i have a low - mid budget, i could probably afford at the most the:

But with Ryzen just around the corner, i was debating upgrading the CPU, Motherboard & Ram, as it's getting old (8 years) and i feel the Motherboard is showing it's age recently.


So, what would be the advice? go all out on the GPU, or say go for a more "budget" GPU and upgrade the CPU (Intel or AMD, tho i hope AMD's Ryzen does well, as i'd rather stick with them) after the release of Ryzen.
If it were the latter, what budget GPU would you recommend? Settings i don't care about except for the resolution and a nice steady frame rate @60FPS hopefully Med, but Low is totally fine. (I do prefer Nvidia tho, as the drivers are just hassle free.)

My call would be to wait those two weeks and see how Ryzen looks. Then we all will have a better knowledge what pays better.
If looking for answer right now and here, I would say since your CPU seems to be just over min. req., and GPU just below min. req., I would go for GPU. Plus, you can keep the GPU when later upgrading the rest of machine.

Your GPU needs changing, but CPU is also limiting the fps to 30s. You need a modern CPU (even cheapest Ryzen should be sufficient) to achieve 60FPS+ in modern games- and a better GPU as well. RX460 2GB or GTX1050 2GB would do well enough for 1080p at mid quality settings, although best price/performance and at least minimal future-proofing starts with RX470.

Hmm, OK! So i've decided to go for a budget card on the lower end of the "Recommended" spec. Even if i do upgrade my CPU soon, i'll still be majorly bottle-necked by my GPU.

Would this be about right? or would a 1050Ti be better? I'm a bit confused to be honest as the 1050Ti has lower cores?

Unless you folks can recommend a better option? I could go with an AMD on a "budget" but because i would keep this as a backup, it would make it easier if my future high-end (Nvidia) GPU were to gain a fault, as i could basically plug & play with the same drivers.

I have to agree with you, i had 3 Radeon's (before AMD took over) each one of them breaking, but that was probably due to the board (Ram i believe) and that happened to be Sapphire, who was probably at fault, but i went with Nvidia & Asus and never looked back.

OK, i decided to splurge on that 1060 instead. I know the 1080Ti might be released shortly, but i don't imagine the prices will change all that much, and i basically saved £20 anyway on eBuyer...

Now let me see, where did i put that piggy bank..

Yea! Hopefully AMD can kick ass with that Ryzen though, hands down i'd choose them for CPU's if they comeback! Been debating an Intel for a while, until i heard about Zen and decided to wait!

I got a free £38 mouse with that card, so it's an extra saving as it';s going on eBay! yay!
