Graphics Card Dilemma (R9 390 vs GTX 1060 vs RX480)

So here's my dilemma... I currently have a Sapphire Nitro R9 390, which I've felt sort of worried about because I've ran into a few issues with it with my old Mobo. I can't RMA the card because I don't have my proof of purchase for it. It still runs great. However, I do have a chance to sell it and get around $250. I've been looking at the Asus strix gtx 1060 and strix rx 480 (I'm sort of an Asus fanboy, I've had great experiences with them, but I'm willing to try out another brand).

So my question is should I hold on to the R9 390, or switch to a GTX 1060 or RX 480 and be guaranteed a warranty, or maybe wait for the RX 5xx cards? I'll be playing at 1080p, 60hz so I don't need to worry about running games over 60 frames.

My current CPU specs:
Ryzen R7 1700 OC'd @ 3.8MHz
Corsair Vengance DDR4 @ 2666MHz
Asus Prime B350-Plus MoBo (Bios 0513)

Thanks for the help! Let me know if you have any questions!

Depends fully on what games you play.
Also remember that if you want a screen with FreeSync/Gsync, Freesync is much cheaper (only works with amd)

I play all types of games, right now I'm playing BF1, H1Z1, some ArmA, Overwatch, etc. I've seen that AMD is beginning to close the gap between the 480 and the 1060, and that DX12 performs a whole lot better on the AMD cards.

Overall performance of 1060 is still better. My vote still for 1060.

I guess I can't quote your post on my phone... But anyways, I respect your suggestion of the 1060, so thank you for that. However, I sort of worry about the future with the 1060. How do you think it'll run a year or two from now? I'm trying to buy for the next few years. The only reason I'm thinking of switching now is because I don't have the warranty with this card.

Hmm I am not sure what you mean? Do you worry about the Vram? Then in that case 6 GB will handle the job even in 2 years. And since it is a better performance in comparison to the 480 there is no question there. Ofcourse if you want something more futureproof you can wait for AMD's Vega.

You say you had issues with the 390 on your old motherboard, but you're not using the old motherboard now so why replace something that works? A warranty is nice but it only helps you if something goes wrong, what's going to go wrong? If that card was going to act up in your new system it would have done it by now.

True, I have noticed some weird texture issues in some games like GTA V, but the card hasn't been showing the same issues. I just like knowing that if something goes wrong with my card, it can get fixed.

I'm not worried about the vram, I'm worried about which card will run better as new titles come out. Yeah, the 1060 is pretty good right now, but AMD has closed the gap between the 1060 and the 480. And I don't feel that the new AMD line is going to fit what I want, seeing that the Vega is complete overkill for me and the card like the 580 will basically be a rebranded 480 with boosted clock speed.

I myself own a 1060, it's a 3 GB which is a cutdown version but still Nvidia brings updates like every 2/3 weeks optimizing the cards for a new title. So I don't think you need to worry. Go with the 1060, trust me.
