Graphics card doesn't work on specific motherboard

Hello. I've been facing a very weird issue with a friend's PC. He has a 550ti from the apparently bankrupt Point Of View, and it was working fine on his machine. He bought an old 3770 CPU with a Z77 Sabertooth mobo and 16gb 1866mhz memory kit from me. I set everything up, we formatted his hdd and all that, but the GPU was showing no video whatsoever, no matter what we did. I tested it back on his old motherboard and it worked absolutely fine. Here's all I did so far, to no avail:

- Changed GPU settings to PciE instead of Auto on the BIOS (it switches back to auto on its own)
- Tried a different, more powerful power supply (corsair's HX750)
- Tried another GPU on both motherboards, worked fine
- Installed Nvidia drivers using another GPU before switching back to the non-functional one, didn't work
- Set BIOS settings to default and even cleared CMOS

The BIOS and all the drivers are up to date, the old hardware (where the GPU works fine) was a Z97-M PLUS with 8gb of ram and a 4170 i3 processor. I'm completely puzzled by this because, like I said, the GPU only works on his old motherboard, even the other GPU I tested worked fine (GTX 970). Thanks in advance.
