Im looking for the best graphics card that is compatable with a 1.0 Pcie slot and I would like suggestions to help begin my research
and no I will not replce the mobo as that is just not an option for me

I agree with Viet. What is the rest of your build? Technically speaking, GPUs are backwards compatible but that doesn't mean you should buy a 970. Because you're asking for compatibility with technology from the early/mid 2000s, more information is needed.

the reason we need to know the rest of the specs is to ensure compatibility. a new pcie x 16 3.0 card should work in that slot but need to be sure of power supply compatibility and such before giving a recommendation. pci slots are backwards compatible so just about any card will run in that slot if the rest of the system will support it.

you can use a low power 750 ti as is or if you want more, you'll have to upgrade the psu as well.

what type of budget do you have and what are your needs/expectations. no need to spend $500 to play solitare and watch netflix but $200 won't give you much gaming power if that's what you want.

I would like to be able to play modern games at high/ultra settings at 60fps my budget is $400 but it would be great if I could achieve that performance for less than that
modern games being things such as farcry 4, bf4, dragon age inquisition, pretty much anything that will come out on the next few years I would like to be able to play at 60fps medium settings minimum and anything out now I would like to play on high/ultra

Do I have to take the graphics card out to see what version it is? Because I just opened my case and read what it said above the graphics card and all it said was pcie16x_1

i have been looking for the mobo specs and all i can find also says 1.0 slot. however, i have seen that system with hd 8*** gpu's in it which suggests 2.0 slot. i agree that it should be a 2.0 slot but i can't find anything to back it up. all signs point to 1.0

can you give us the exact motherboard model please. if you have cpu-z installed it will tell you the model under the mainboard tab. this is easier than trying to find a cryptic model number that oem's tend to use. this way we can be sure.

Yeah. I'm going to have to agree with SR-71. The expansion slot listed isn't correct. So there's two units for PCI slot, speed and length. Unfortunately, the units are the same.

PCIe 2.0 x16 <- that x16 would be the length of the slot. The speed of the slot can change and is represented as x16, x8 and x4.

My interpretation of what's listed on BestBuy's site is a PCIe x1 slot (length). Not a PCIe x16 slot. But, your board more than likely has a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot for GPUs. The r9 255 is probably using it.

Alright so I tried it and the results kind of surprise me it says under bus interface

the graphics card reports that it supports PCIE X16 3.0
It is currently running at PCIE X4 v1.1
So i'm assuming that means I was right and wrong its version 1.1
So now what i'm looking for is a video card that will perform to high standards but will not be hindered my the 1.1 slot at the resolution I plan to play at (I stated it in a previous part of this thread

Hello
my mother board is an asus m2n-mx and my previous graphics card, connected to a real pci-e 16x 1.0 slot, just passed out, it was a GeForce 9800GT 512 MB DDR3, I just bought on ebay a second-hand nvidia quadro fx1700 in good condition for replacement, but it seems much more slower than my original one, my motherboard only allows 2GB RAM on this old cpu from beginning 2000, I'm gonna buy a whole new one but still, I'd like to keep that one running, so which graphics card would you advise me to best suit my video needs (Cubase, youtube, and sometimes counterstrike but very rarely..) with capacity to use two screens at the same time Dual DV. Thank you all!
