Graphics card for HP Compaq DC7100 CMT

Hallo,
I have an old HP Compaq DC7100 with a P4 3.8 Ghz and 4 gigs of ram. At this time I use a Geforce 210, but I like to upgrade to a GF730 if this is possible. The Board has only a PCIe x16 slot. It's PCIe 1.x The GF210 works properly. Will a GF730 work properly too? I use Linux but I want better Rendering performance. Will the Gf730, with GDDR5, work fine in my computer?

Rendering performance will depend on what software you use. If the software does not make good use of the videocard, your performance will not improve no matter what card you get. If the card itself is not powerful enough to make a difference, performance will not improve. So what I'd do before spending any money is verify my software will benefit from something more than the GT 210.

The GT 730 DDR5, which is the one I'd get, is rated for the same power load as the 210, so you should be able to just swap cards. Make sure it's a half height card if you have one of the small cases.

edit: A Quadro is more what you'd want for that kind of work, I've seen Quadro 2000s available for low cost. That one you mentioned is far too old and slow to be worth considering.

I have the biggest Version of the DC7100, the Convertible Miditower with the full length of the slots. I have a 350 Watt PSU. I calculated that this is enough. I thought about a Quadro 2000. Does the Quadro 2000 have a 4 pin or six pin power connector? I have no Adapter from Molex, so I would have to buy one if the card has a power jack.

You have a Pentium 4 system and want to speed up rendering speeds? Spend $50 on a new used computer. Even a Core 2 Duo will give you more of a boost than a new video card. Spend $100 you can get one with an Intel Q quad core CPU, even an earlier Intel i5 system. Spending money on a video card instead is a horrible waste of money.
