Graphics card improvement

Hello!

Im thinking about changing my graphic card to prepare for the new games are coming (BF3, SWTOR...)

My PC now:

Intel C2D E8500 (3.16GHz)
4Gb RAM
HD4850
Screen 24" Full HD

My idea is to overclock the processor and change the graphic card to a HD6850/70, or to a HD6950/70

I dont know if one of the cards I put above is too much for my processor. Im thinking in change it around Christmas, so maybe it's worth to buy a good card now, or just buy a normal and then put them in crossfire...

What do u think? HD6950/70 would be too much?

Well even if you can obtain a high CPU O.C. it's still going to be severely taxed in BF3 because it's a dual core.But I guess it's not a bad idea if you do have plans to get a new CPU in a couple months.Also by then their will be many more options for CPU upgrades with the release of AMD and Intel's new processors.

I would reccomned a 6870 or GTX560.I think even with a high O.C. it's still going to bottleneck anything higher.In fact you might be bottlenecking those cards even.

What is the make/model of your PSU?

What is your budget?

ive been beta testing star wars the old republic and it runs fine with max settings on my radeon 5770, battlefield 3 i say wait for benchmarks so that you can get the cheapest card that does what you want. the radeon 7000 series comes out (in theory) before christmas. if the rumors are right it might be a good idea to wait, if not for the new card then for the price drops. plus the christmas deals will be quite good.

I was in the BF3 Alpha and it was taxing my quad core @ 3.8ghz really bad.

I don't agree, but the last year saw in increasing amount of games that use multi-core.

I would reccomend the 6870/GTX560 based on a CPU bottleneck.Anything more powerful will be bottlenecked so theirs really no point.Of course if you wanted to spend the extra money for a faster card so you have it when you upgrade your CPU that's your call.

Personally I would get a GTX560 now and then come Christmas, or whenever you upgrade your CPU, get another GTX560 for SLI.By the time you upgrade AMD's 7000 series and Nvidia's GTX6xx series should be out so GTX560's should be cheap by then.
A GTX560 SLI and a new CPU and you should be able to max out BF3 and any other game.

Can't really reccomned a PSU because I don't know how much money you can spend but take in the fact that maybe you will want to SLI/Crossfire in the future.It's always good to overshoot and get a bigger PSU now than have to buy a new one later.

Something like this is what you should get.It's plenty of power and it's Modular so you don't have to worry about extra cables you don't need.

I currently own a 6870 and while I would definitly reccomend a 6870 crossfire I've been hearing a lot about problems with a 6870 crossfire.Something with micro-stuttering.With that being said I think a GTX560 would be the better option for now.Although it is possible AMD can release drivers to fix that issue.

The GTX560 is a little slower than the 6870 but it's hardly noticeable(5-10FPS at best).

If you get an OCed GTX 560 Ti, the speed will be nearly identical (1-2 FPS) and depending where you live, the NVidia cards could also be cheaper.

Sorry, I'm just writing a bit fast since I'm at work . Yes, an OCed 560Ti will be very close to a standard 6870; moreover some countries have the Nvidia cards cheaper than ATI cards, ironically Canada is one of them and that is why I have a 560Ti ...

I was talking about the GTX560(non-ti).The GTX560ti is faster than the 6870.The GTX560ti is more on par with the 6950.
