Graphics card isn't being detected

Hello,
I have recently purchased a new computer and when installing the graphics card - nothing shows up on the screen.

When I use the onboard graphics, everything is fine, yet when I put in the graphics card, nothing shows up on the screen.

Is there anyway to fix this? I have read a few articles online, who say about using driversweeper to remove all the drivers and reinstalling them but this doesn't work.

I know that power is getting to the PCI-E slot, as the fan is spinning on the card, and in the BIOS settings, the primary graphics adapter is set to PCI-E.

Please help!

Specs:
CPU: Intel Q8400
Motherboard: MSI G41M-P25
RAM: Corsair XMS3 4GB
Graphics Card: Sapphire HD6870
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

With Sapphire HD6870 you should be aware in which one of the DVI-ports you are plugging in the cable. if you use a VGA to DVI adapter use the upper DVI port, if you are using a DVI cable use the lower DVI port.

Yes, updated via Live Update (MSI software).




I am using a VGA to DVI adapter, and have plugged in into the top DVI port.


Did you plug in the 8 pin pci-express power?.
Yes, the power supply is connected to the card.

Check in BIOS and see if there's an option for your board to only use the integrated graphics and if that's selected. Or if it's set to intialize the onboard before the pci-e slot.

I tried it in another system and I got it to work 1 out of 5 times. The times that it didn't work, it either just didn't show anything on the screen, or it showed this when I got to the desktop: http://i.imgur.com/CwIrC.jpg

When I put it back into the system it is meant to be in, it again doesn't show anything. Is this something wrong with the card more than the drivers etc?

Great. Ok, could it possibly be anything else? Would the warranty from Sapphire cover this?

If the warranty isn't expired and you haven't done anything to the card to void it, you should be able to get it replaced under warranty. Also, if it's been recent enough since you purchased the card, you may be able to RMA or return the card to the retailer for a replacement.
