Graphics Card issue

Recently my graphics card has been malfunctioning. my screen will just go from whatever I was doing to a solid grey white color. Sometimes it happens 15 seconds after I turn my PC on and sometimes 15 min. A lot of time before it shuts off the screen will go black then come back on with a message popup that says "display driver stopped responding and has been recovered Display driver NVIDIA windows Kernel mode driver version 372.9 stopped responding and has been successfully recovered". I put in an old graphics card in and did some tests and did not have the same problem. I put my card back in (GTX 970FTW) tried replacing the HDMI cable, reinstalling the card, uninstalling and then reinstalling Gforce experience and all NVIDIA drivers and updating all the drivers of the card and I am still having the same problem. another thing of note is when the screen goes black the fans still spin and I can play the game for a bit after there is no visual display then I have to hold the power button. I even checked MSI afterburner to make sure that it was functioning normally and it was. I am relatively new to computers and wanted to try to fix it myself but I don't know what to do next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Solution

Most likely it's a bad card, test the card in another system like suggested.
