Graphics card MSI GTX 970 wont work some cable failure

So i have the gtx 970 its a new built pc. I had a problem with powering it with supernova evga 750w g2 thought it was solved. So the problem was i only plug in the 8 pin connector which was 6+2 pin but the gpu is 6+8 pin. So when the 8 pin is plugged in the monitor turns on. When i plug in the another 6 pin. The monitor wont turn on it says 'No Signal' .. is there soemthing wrong with the gpu? Or is it the cable? Atm the graphics im using is the intel's. Which is i guess the built in graphics. Would appreciate your help guys thanks

Is the monitor plugged into the GPU? This behavior is what you would expect if you had the monitor connected to your motherboard rather than the GPU's output.

I did, but didnt work. So i plugged in the hdmi from monitor to the gpu. But still it says no signal.
