Graphics Card not recognized

Hey community,
So I built my computer this summer and recently tried to upgrade the graphics by adding a GeForce 9600GT card. The hardware installation seemed to go fine, and the fan started spinning on it, but it is not putting out any signal (through a DVI-VGA adapter) and I cannot find the new hardware anywhere from the OS. My specs are:
Athlon II x3 3.2 Ghz
MSI GF615-P31 mobo
8 GB RAM
620W Antec PSU (48A on the 12V rail)
and other normal components, hooked up to a 19" LCD VGA moniter.
What could my problem be? At first I thought it might be my PSU, which used to be 400W but I then upgraded to 620W, and it is rated for SLI/Crossfire so that shouldn't be a problem. My motherboard has PCIE 1.0 instead of 2.0, but as far as I understand this could only affect performance, but it should still recognize. It might not be fully seated, but it looks like it is because it locks in and I would have to bend the bracket to make it go any further. Do I have to go through the whole process of removing the internal graphics drivers before anything will recognize? I though that it would at least still output the signal through the card. On my old PSU I tried uninstalling and disabling all the internal graphics and drivers, but still got nothing. I have a DVI moniter coming in in a few days so if that doesn't work then I'll know it isn't the adapter. Any help will be appreciated.

The card is definitely seated well and has plenty of power, and I just went through the process of disabling the onboard graphics and downloaded the drivers directly from the nvidia website. Still nothing shows up about the card, the drivers only recognize my onboard graphics.

That's why I'm asking this, I'm trying to find out if the problem is on my part or if it is a bad card.

I bought a 5850 at release, about six months ago I decided to try a CF configuration and purchased a new 5850. It worked great on the AM3 board I was using, but when I upgraded to a Z68, my second card would stop being recognized (it would recognize it fine w/o the CF bridge attached, but in CF it would work at first then not recognize the second card after a little while.)

When I switched places with the cards, Windows recognized the cards just fine, however I had some crashing problems, maybe every 3-4 hours my computer would crash during a game. As far as I could figure the problems I was having were due to the cards being very different revisions of the same chipset, apparently my board just didn't like them.

I am now running a pair of 6870's and they work fine, so I can think of no other explanation for my troubles. So I would recommend taking off your bridge and seeing if both cards are recognized in windows. If so then I would try switching places of the cards to see what happens. As scout said, it seems possible your motherboard just won't run the cards together. (you should try running the second card by itself in the primary slot before you give up to make sure it works.)
