I've been experiencing overheating of my graphics card ending roughly at about 74 C. I tried exchanging it for a different graphics card, but the problem still persists. What might be a possible cause of this ? By the way, I haven't tried overclock.
These are my specs:

Solution
74C it's normal for a Graphics card, nothing to worry about.
If the temperature exceeds 90C , then there's the danger zone.
You're safe.

Its warm but like said above that temp wont cause any short term damage however with a aging 660 you will probably want to keep it as cool as possible to prolong its life. The best and easiest thing you can do is download a program like msi afterburner and create a custom fan profile its very easy to do, a lot of times stock fan profiles are meant for silence not cooling performance. My 760 will hit about 70c or so without my fan profile, with it it wont go past 60c but it is a bit louder. You should also blow out any dust with a can can of compressed air if the card is is getting dusty.

I tried installing MSI Afterburner, and it showed that once I got into the game the GPU went directly up to over 90 C. So the GPU is probably almost dead.

So its hitting 90c? I thought you said 74c? If its hitting 90c consistently then you either have a lot of dust caked in your card or the thermal paste is dried up which is possible on a 660 you might want to replace the paste.

When I wrote the first time I only got to see it hit 74 C because I had to close down the game otherwise the computer would crash, this time the MSI Afterburner checked the whole way through + it has started to extremely quickly hit a temperature of 90. I have already tried all the other things as well, like replacing the thermal paste and use compressed air to remove any dust, but with no result.

You must have added too much or too little thermal paste and were you careful to make sure the thermal pads went back on in the right place? At 90c the card will throttle and you will lose performance and its not very good for it to get that hot I would take it apart again and redo the thermal paste, look up a guide on youtube or something if your not sure how, their are a lot of good ones out there.
