Graphics card power cable help

Hi there,

I have a Be Quiet 630w PSU (LINK) which was from a previous build of mine, so I have lost or misplaced the extra cables that come with it.

I have a brand new GPU which is an MSI GeForce GTX 1080 card.

Now, I need to connect my GPU to the CPU in order for it to have power, but I can't seem to find the correct cable(s) required online, and I haven't seen a thread for this elsewhere.

The PSU has two female 8 pin PCIe outputs as shown here:

The GPU has one female 8 pin input and one female 6 pin input as shown here:

So my question to you lot is would this cable below work for giving enough power and grounding to the GPU?

I have looked around and I cannot seem to find a single 8 pin male to 8 pin (or 6+2 pin) male cable and a 8 pin male to 6 pin (or 6+2 pin) male cable to run two individual lines from the PSU to the GPU. But then again, would this be a good idea or not (I don't know if that would give too much power, if i ran it from two seperate ports). My other PC that I built obviously had the correct cable come with the PSU, of which looked just like the one above, and looped from the 8 pin port on the GPU to the 6 pin port, with only one 8 pin connection on the CPU side.

I just wanted to double check all of this, with people who would definately know as I don't really want to get this wrong 😛

Just to make sure I understand you correctly it would seem you don't have the cable(s) necessary to power your 1080. Your possible solution is to split an 8 pin to two 8 pin or 6+2 cables so you can connect an 8 pin and a 6 pin cable. . Each 8 pin connection will offer up to 150W of power. The 6 pin PCI supplemental cables offer up to 75W. The PCI slot offers 75. If you split that 8 pin it won't work. You need the right cables. Where are you located? Preferred retailer?

Yes, I don't have the right cable. Would that cable that I pictured be correct? If not, if you can take alook for me, that would be great! Ideally an online retailer such as amazon or ebay or scan.co.uk or overclockers etc. But so long as I know what i'm looking for specifically then that's a good start.

The purepowers modular ports are capable of powering 2 connectors from each.

The issue is those ports will not be wired to a standard used by those generic extended cables you listed.

Using that will likely create a short & blow PSU/GPU or both.

You need to find your original cables or get in touch with be quiet & see if you can buy some replacements.

I'd also argue with buying a 1080 you ought to just drop the money on a new PSU (it will likely cost about the same as replacement cables)

Wouldn't risk anything on a £500+ GPU.
