So i recently ordered a new graphic card for my computer. I see that the GPU requires a 6-pin power connector AND a 8-pin one as well. My first question is do I need to plug in both in order for it to run properly? Anyway, so i tried putting the 8-pin connector into the slot (i really just put the 6 to 8 pin adapter on it) and when i went to turn on the computer, it turned on. So i plugged in the HDMI cable and nothing came up.

GPU:MSI R9 390 Gaming 8G
PSU: Corsair Builder Series CX 430 Watt
Motherboard: ASUS A55BM-E

Could anyone guide me in the right direction please? Because im not going anywhere good right now. Are there any new parts i need to get or what? Thanks

You need a MUCH better PSU than the CX 430 to power the R9 390. It simply isn't enough.

This would suffice and is a good unit:

Power Supply: XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($55.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $55.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

If you can afford it this would be even better:

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($65.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $65.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

ouch. as much as i like the CX430M and CX500M, that's a juicy card and the 430M doesn't give you the right cables to power it. heck, it's not even a 430W supply but a 385W supply.

for that GPU, i wouldn't use anything lower than a 550W. on the cheap, an EVGA 500B might be alright, or if you're in the USA those XFX units are well priced.

So if I do get a better Power Supply, that will solve all the problems listed above? How do I know if it comes with enough cables to satisfy everything?

If I do get 1 of these PSU's, will it solve all the problems listed above? Do you know by any chance if its my motherboard that is the problem? Please Explain

Yes, the problem is almost certainly that you don't have enough power running to your components. Either of the power supplies I listed above will solve that issue.

the thing about the 6 / 8 pin connectors on a graphics card is that not ALL of them are used for power! some are used as sense pins - they can detect if a connector is plugged in and if they don't get a signal (usually they need to sense 12V on a specific line) then they know you don't have enough power connected so they don't even bother to turn on.

technically very likel. at the 430W and 500W, the CX-M are great. at 600W and up, they're not really worth it unless on sale.

HOWEVER, that is a great sale price.

QUESTION - do you have the 430W Modular or 430W plain? if modular, i would certainly look at staying within the Corsair brand so that you can mix-n-match the cables. if the 430W you have is not modular, then be open to other options as well.

I have the 430 Plain. Im about to buy it 600m
