Graphics Card problem =(

I bought a Forsa GTX 650 1GB DDR 5 and a Cooler Master Thunder 500W PSU

When I installed the gpu and started the pc it showed some lines in the starting menu (where you can open bios etc) and when at windows loading screen it shut down so I called a mechanic and he said my motherboard doesn't supports this gpu. Is it true ?

My Mobo -> Gigabyle G31M-ES2L
Processor -> Intel Core2Duo E7400 2.8 Ghz
Ram-> 4GB DDR 2
It's working fine with my old GPU ATI radeon HD 4350

Help !!

'Some lines' is vague. What exactly do you see?
Even though it's relatively old there is no information that it would have any problem with that GPU.

I see some lines everywhere on the screen =( I thought gpu doesn't depends on mobo

Did the mechanic replace the battery? I don't believe him since you did get to the windows loading screen (mobo has nothing to say from there on).

I did not get the windows loading screen :/ Just when it's time form the windows loading screen to come, it goes black and then turns off

Ah, I must have misunderstood. Still, replace the battery on the motherboard. Whole PCs can stop working because of a $1 part.
