How can I be sure when buying a graphics card that it will support a monitor with optimal resolution of 1920 x 1080, since graphics cards do not have a resolution specification?
Thanks lunyone. I would have thought the information would be on the packaging rather than my having to go to the manufacturer's web page. That means researching the card on the manufacturer's web site even before purchasing the card. Seems like it would make more sense just to put that information on the card packaging. Anyway, thanks again for your response.
It's not really specific to the manufacturer. It's related to the chip on the card. Every 1060 will support the same max resolution. Same with a AMD 480

Yes, but sometimes you have to delve deeper than should be required to find the maximum resolution for the GPU in question. I remember quite a bit ago the numbers used to be on the box, but I haven't bought a GPU since the AMD 6850.....
Thanks joshyboy82. I just found that some computer centers do in fact indicate a max resolution for some video cards on their specifications page. That should solve my problem as that information is available, at least for some cards prior to making the purchase. Thanks again for responding.
