[SOLVED] Graphics card runs in x4 instead of x16?

Hey all I recently changed from an Intel to an AMD system, but some issues have come with it. The main issue is my evga gtx 970 only runs in x4 mode instead of x16 in the first pcie slot. Also, the only way for it to run in the first pcie slot is if I put the motherboard into x8+x8 mode instead of auto in the pcie settings.

Full specs are
AMD Ryzen 5 2600
MSI B450 Tomahawk
2x8gb of G.skill V ram
EVGA GTX 970

Any suggestions ?

Where did you get the processor from?
According to the User's Manual, this behavior would be normal for an AMD Athlon w/ Radeon Vega Graphics.

also, do you have the GPU in the top PCIE slot? when you switched platforms without a clean win 10 install you will run in to system issues

Yes, the gpu is in the top pcie slot and i didn't reinstall windows. Do you think that could be causing issues?

Edit: And yes. If you swapped your components without reinstalling Windows, you will run into some issues.
