ok, this is absolutely pathetic that graphics cards are double and even triple the cost (for the same cards) as last year.

I am tempted to just ignore people and use integrated graphics with an intel.

All I need it for is video editing. If I just use integrated, won't it still work, but just take longer to encode?

I was going to get a 1050 ti, when it was $140. There is no way i am paying much above that for a gpu and many places are charging $300 for that card. Then I see on ebay the rx 480 is selling PREOWNED for $300+ (the 4gb version).

Then we get to memory. The same memory that was $140 last year is now ON SALE for over $200. I'm not going to pay literally $200-$300 extra for my build after waiting to try to save money.

Andddd after all of that, then people say not to buy coffee lake and wait for 9th gen. Then when that is out they'll say don't be dumb and buy 9th gen, wait for 10th gen, blah blah blah.

Solution
Lol, you are so right with generations.
Video editing is mostly done in CPU but a lot of RAM can help a lot. In latest generations, Intel has improved graphics a lot and soon will have processors with AMD Vega. For now, it would be quite enogh to get some Cheaper GPU, like Rx 560 forin stance, it's still much faster than any IGPU and miners are largely ignoring them.

Do you have several recommendations along with the rx 560? Maybe an idea on what comes close to the 1050 ti level? I ahve looked at the tiers on here, but a lot of the gpus that are listed around the 1050 ti tier are so old that they aren't even for sale anywhere. lol.

ps I am used to doing everything on a computer with an Athlon II processor so anything is fast compared to that. lol. But if I am going all out with coffee lake, gold efficiency psu, good memory such as ripjaws, samsung SSDs, etc... I figure I should get at least a bare minimum half way decent gpu for the rare times I may edit video.
