Graphics card too hard to remove even after opening the PCIe port.

There should be a latch or tab at the end away from the IO shield. It locks the card it place. The card won't leave that end of the slot until you push that tab.

If that's not it, try the Archimedean lever approach 😉

I am not a computer guy. Can you explain in normal language? What's IO shield?

Its the metal part around the ports at the back of the GPU:

This? https://pp.vk.me/c631431/v631431202/3281d/DrV1RPomFPg.jpg

Sorry, I forgot how confusing that term first sounded when I first started getting into hardware 😛

The I/O shield, simply put, is the back of your computer where you would plug in USB cables, monitor cables to your GPU etc. it's the metal shield around them. So if you're looking at your computer when it's on it's side (horizontal). If the IO shield (cable plugin spots) are on your left, then the right side of the PCI slot should have this tab.

If it's a more modern motherboard, then it'll have a simpler tab. Either a hook or a switch kind of thing that looks like the ones on your RAM sticks.

Did you want to say press down the PCIe lock? I did that and I also unscrewed the card but it still sits pretty hard. If I shake it, it seems like what holds the card in place is somewhere near the I/O shield.

Yeah, if you've removed the screws and released the PCI-e tab I don't see why it won't budge? Maybe you didn't push the lock tab far enough? Also I think you need to sort of wiggle the card around a bit to get it out. Mine does this, it doesn't pull straight out of the slot; I have to move it a bit towards the rear of my case first.

Dude XD I removed the card. I didn't unscrew it completely. If anyone has a similar question, say that you need to make sure that it is actually unscrewed. Thanks a lot!

Do I just plug in my new card now? GTX 1080

Haha my bad. Didn't read that earlier part.

A picture would help us visualize this. But wiggling the card side to side in the direction of the slot (not perpendicular/up and down) is the best way to safely remove a stubborn GPU/ (as ProGamer described)

If that doesn't work, then send us a picture. I wonder if the card is wedged between the slot and the metal of the case.

Whenever I'm installing a new card I use a program called DDU to completely remove every trace of the old driver. Then shut down the PC, pull out the old video card, install new one, power on the PC and install drivers completely fresh.

Whoops. Somehow all of us missed your post 😛

Thanks for the best answer, but I think ProGamer had the correct suggestion from the beginning :)

Glad you got that sorted! As ProGamer said, DDU is a great tool to ensure ideal performance/reliability. It's easy to use, restart into safe mode, launch DDU, clean uninstall drivers within the program. Restart. Install latest GeForce drivers.

You can find a download mirror at the bottom of this page

Best of luck!

You must have deleted your post, but for the resolution to be very low and second monitor not working, this is normal. That's because you have no display drivers installed and are running on integrated graphics. Also, with DDU and a new card, you're meant to choose the shutdown option (download the driver beforehand so you can use it right away after turning on), remove the old card and install the new card before booting back up. Restart option is for when you just want to thoroughly re install a driver that might be causing issues, for example.
