Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card and had a few questions about it as its something I've never done before.

I'm upgrading this PC:

http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay/?sp4ts.oid=4269980&spf_p.tpst=kbDocDisplay&spf_p.prp_kbDocDisplay=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c02575094-26%257CdocLocale%253D%257CcalledBy%253D&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken

And I want to put in it the following:

http://www.cclonline.com/product/98557/GV-N660OC-2GD/Graphics-Cards/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX-660-Ultra-Durable-VGA-Series-2GB-Graphics-Card/VGA0919/

What do I have to do to make this transition process as simple as poossible? Will this GPU be compatible with my desktop? Do I have to upgrade my power supply? If so, please could you let me know what youu would recommend?

Thanks in advance

Speaking of graphics card. You have chosen to buy a GTX 660 thats reasonable, but on the same website I found out that an XFX radeon hd 7870 is only for 1 buck more, which is even more reasonable. An hd 7870 is more better and gives you significantly better performance than gtx 660 an is a real competetor of 660ti. So for only 1 buck extra you can get a few FPS more in games. So I really think it's not wise to buy a gtx 660 when an hd 7870 is almost as of same price. And for psu, you should get atleast 500 watt psu, if you buy either gpu. GTX 660 only needs a 450 Watt psu, but later when you upgrade you motherboard you might want to overclock it, just in case you think you wan't a better perfomance.

Thankyou for your responses.

My plan was to initially upgrade the GPU then get around to upgrading the rest of the PC as time goes on.

Is this the card you're talking about?

Could you provide me with some examples of the PSU I would need to get to use the above card?

Thanks

If anyone else has anything other information to add it would be useful, bearing in mind this is something I've never done before (only opened a computer to clean it) etc. so pretend you're talking to a 10 year old not a 20 year old. Haha.

Thanks

Yes that's the card I was talking about, but on the same website the same hd 7870 was also of 130 bucks. And you should always choose performance over free 2-3 games, you can buy them later but as you will be getting a better card even cheaper, go for the XFX hd 7870. That's the same card I was going to buy before I read about r9 280x series. I watched many videos and reviews which told that XFX hd 7870 totally destroyed the gtx 660. SO buy the hd 7870 if you wan't better performance at less price. And you might also have some left over money and you can add that to buy games. :)
