For Christmas, I received a ton of computer parts to make a new system, which I am very happy about. One of these parts was an AMD Radeon R9 390. The card dominates all of the games I play, such as PAYDAY2, Grand Theft Auto V, and Fallout 4. Today, I decided to play Minecraft, something I rarely do. I was exited to see how the new system ran compared to my other.
The first thing I did was open a superflat world to test performance. I was immediately hit with a wall of lag. The framerate fluctuates constantly, ranging from as low as 20 up to 63. No matter what the framerate is, I have screen tear, even when it is below 60. Messing with vSync changed nothing.
I turned all of the settings to the lowest possible and shut off vsync. The framerate continued to fluctuate between 60 and 200.
With my other computer, I would be getting over 1000fps with the settings on a superflat world.
The Problem
I viewed task manager and MSI Afterburner. Sure enough, when I'm running the game, the graphics card usage stays below 40% and the temperature stays at idle. I tried dedicating 10 whole gigs of RAM to the game. Nothing changed. I am quite certain that this isn't normal, especially because my new system is better in every way than the old one.
