Just want to pick some brains as I'm currently trying to update / upgrade a dinosaur, my PC is something of an antique and has the HP Pavillion Tango D33007 VG31 socket 478 Motherboard with a Graphics supporting AGP 8X PCI slot. It has 2 GIG of Low-Density DDR-333 PC2700 NON-ECC Memory, an Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GIG 512KB processor and currently has an 80 GIG HD running Windows XP Pro Service pack 3.

I currently have an ASUS Radeon 7000 64MB Graphics card installed but want to upgrade this to the best (on budget) graphics card I can but am not sure which one / type to go for so that said would really appreciate your thoughts on what to go for. The general idea is to get this into a position where I can fit a bigger HD and put Windows 7 on it at some point so any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks
Andy

AGP cards are scarce today. They are all PCIe X16 now. And the few still available are all low end cards simply there to replace dead gfx systems still in use. I can see no good reason to spend any money on that machine. It is totally obsolete for gaming, if that was your goal.

Hi clutchc, Yeah I know this is an old system but at the moment funds are low and a new PC isn't something that's going to be on the shopping list anytime soon so need to do the best I can with what I've got. I'm not a gamer that's something I'm not into all I want this for is everyday general internet use so just trying to get it to a point where I'm relatively happy with its performance.

I've been looking at the Radeon range of cards and someone offered me a Radeon 9800 the other day but I don't think that will be good enough as I'm pretty sure there are other options I'm not dismissing the Radeon cards just think there will more as likely be a better one to go for. I'm not a computer genius (if I was I'd have a better system than this) but I know generally enough to get by but this is something I would like some opinions on as i don't want to buy something thinking it will do then find out it won't and just throw good money after bad.

Well... here's what's available at Newegg in AGP (4x/8x): http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100007709%20600007850
They have just about given up on AGP.

Amazon still has a pretty good selection: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=lp_284822_nr_p_n_feature_keywords_0?fst=as%3Aoff&rh=n%3A172282%2Cn%3A!493964%2Cn%3A541966%2Cn%3A193870011%2Cn%3A284822%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_four_browse-bin%3A6158743011&bbn=284822&ie=UTF8&qid=1455835884&rnid=6030980011
But I have no idea what your budget it for a gfx card.
Something like this would have been cinsidered a "high end" card back in its day: http://www.amazon.com/HIS-X1950Pro-Turbo-256MB-256bit/dp/B000NOOS4W/ref=sr_1_110?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1455836136&sr=1-110&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_four_browse-bin%3A6158743011

Edit: sorry, the Amazon link was too long for the forum apparently. All you got was the home page.

Thanks for the info and the links much appreciated I've made a couple of notes as to card type and manufacturer. I believe at the moment I'm looking at Nvidia Geforce / ASUS/ATI Radeon etc, there is a Xfx 512MB GeForce 7950 GT AGP 8X on ebay .. wondering if that would be one to go for ?

That must be like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150223
If the seller has a good feedback score and lots of sales, and offers a refund, go for it.
Be sure you have at least a 300W PSU.

Hmm he has a feedback score of 9, not very reassuring and the picture is blurry and a standard shot not one of the actual item. I'll have to think it over but in the meantime if anyone reading this has a real good card tucked away somewhere they would like to sell that will do the job very nicely please let me know.
