Graphics card upgrade

Sandstorm3000

Honorable
Hello, i am thinking about upgrading my graphics card in my old pc (It has a Q6600 (Stock speed), 6GB RAM)

I will build a completely new pc somewhere in februari, but i am thinking about already buying the GPU and using it in this PC for the time being.

The GPU i want to buy is a GTX 1060 3GB either the MSI edition or the white Asus one. The reason i am not sure is because i don't really know how much of a bottleneck the Q6600 will become.

Derrick

Edit: So my question is, would it be worth it or shall i wait?

if you plan to upgrade anyways, there is no point in waiting... though important parts like a new psu is more futureproof... and if you have the budget go for the 6gb version.... what games are you planning on pllaying? i believe the q6600 will cripple the performance a great deal so dont expext wonderous performance cus of the upgrade,

Yeah that is what i was thinking as well, there is no point in waiting to get it.

Another reason for me waiting is budget, and the kaby lake CPU's which are scheduled to release in Q1 (january?) and ofcourse the Z270 mobo's.

Anyways thanks for your response.

hope you are not planning to continue use of it? the life span of a psu is seldom so long.

I know that, but the thing is some games are literally unplayable because of the DX11 requirement which my old GTX285 simply does not have.

The problem is that i am then forced to play them on my laptop. For example: Dead by daylight or Overwatch. And after some googling i did found out that a core 2 quad CPU like the Q6600 is capable of running those games. With very playable framerates given that you have a good enough graphics card.

I kinda am planning on keeping this in use. I mean it works, i don't see why it would all of the sudden break down. It never had any issues and always worked perfectly.

As of right now i mainly play CS:GO, Rocket league and OSRS. Occasionally Dead by Daylight, Diablo III or LoL.

Yea it has two 6-pins because thats what my current card needs (I think the GTX285 can draw 200w of power).
So none of these games are really graphically intense, only thing is that im missing out on a few DX11 games. For example DbD which i am forced to play on my laptop.
