I was thinking of upgrading my GTX 980 MSI as i have seen the 1080 prices go down a bit lately. So the GTX 980 sells for about 300 pounds used and you can buy a new GTX 1080 for around 500+ pounds. But I was wondering will my current system just bottleneck the GTX 1080 that I wont see its full performance. My current system has the

i5-4690k (overclocked to 4.2Ghz)
8 GB of DDR3 RAM
HyperX 250 GB SSD
650 W corsair PSU
GTX 980

I want to upgrade as I want to start gaming at 1440p Ultrawide and I dont think this system will do very well at AAA games at that resolution.

Here is 1440p results for various games, minimum fps, and average fps.

Ultrawide results will maybe be up to id say 10 fps lower at the most, which leaves it at still very impressive performance.

As you can see the 980 actually still performs really well in modern AAA titles in 1440p :)

Hope this helps.

EDIT: the games were tested on ultra settings, you could always tweak those settings slightly for even better performance.
