Hi all,
I'm trying to upgrade a PC before Christmas to allow my nephew to play minecraft.
I have a DELL Inspiron 545, 2.80Ghz CPU with 6GB RAM. I installed minecraft on it the other day but when trying to run the program was met with an error message "Bad video card drivers". I tried to update the drivers but no newer ones were found, so i was hoping a GPU upgrade would fix the problem. (Its using onboard graphics at the moment).
The Dell Inspiron only has a 300w power supply i believe so this also limits the possibilities. I don't really plan on upgrading the PSU or anything else just yet.
I believe the motherboard has a PCI x16 port.
Can you give me some suggestions that would work within these parameters allowing him to play minecraft and maybe some other low end games such as lego, things like that.
I understand this question has been asked time and time again, but i can't seem to get any definitive answer to make sure it will work on my system.
Ones i have been lead towards are the Raedon HD6450 or the GTX 750Ti
Thanks for you time and help in advance.

It is a pretty weak GPU. It should handle Minecraft, but is not that great for anything else. If Minecraft and lego are all he plays, or games similar to that, it should be enough.
Perhaps you could try the GTX 1050 or 1050ti? It is pretty good and works well for a budget. It can draw power from the motherboard itself, and is a low power card. Still, just in case, check out your PSU's wattage.

Or, you can try using DDU to uninstall the drivers and then reinstall them from the website of the manufacturer.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm on a budget alright lol. Like i said its only for him to play minecraft mainly. If i can pick up a second hand graphics card for $50 i'll be happy. I don't want to go too overboard with it.

Will a MSI nVidia GeForce GT 710 2GB GDDR5 work ?
