8th Generation Intel® Core™ i5+ 8400 processor
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 (2 GB GDDR5 dedicated)
1 TB 7200 rpm SATA storage
16 GB NVMe™ Intel® Optane™ Memory for storage acceleration
8 GB RAM DDR4
It’s a HP Pavilion 690-0020

And power supply?

BTW - HP Pavilion 690-0020 is completely different from your specs.

Upgrade to from Gtx 1050 to Gtx 1050 ti - will not suffice for 1440p gaming. RTX 2060 would be absolute minimum.

And the 2060 will struggle at 1440P in the newer games depending on settings.

Really a RTX 2070 would be the min realistically for 1440P and even that will struggle depending on the game and settings.

Some of the new games are no joke.

I would say you will also need a new PSU if you plan on upgrading the GPU.

That is a budget system so the PSU will be low quality and wattage.

That's the problem with prebuilds and especially budget ones.

Upgrading from a 1050 to a 1050Ti is a waste of money, it's a minimal upgrade.

The CPU is not at issue (except maybe some specifically CPU intensive games). Given your monitor specs, your GPU very underpowered. A GTX 1070 is considered what you might need for max details at your monitor's resolution, but to average about 60fps. Given the high refresh rate, assuming you WANT higher frames per second, I would not buy a new video card until you have enough to at least go up to a GTX1080/RTX2070

And, I concur, a PSU upgrade would likely be needed. According to the HP page, your existing PSU is 310W (oddly, gold-rated efficiency)

However, if the one answer to this HP forum post is correct, then it's a proprietary PSU, and you might not be able to find a compatible replacement.

However, THIS page mentions options for that PC for the RX 580 and GTX 1080 video cards, which implies that a more powerful PSU must have been offered. You might need to contact HP.

Couldn't hurt to look in the case and see if the PSU is a standard ATX type of size, and if it uses the normal 24-pin and 4/8 pin motherboard connectors, etc.

OP's monitor is a GSync monitor with 2560x1440 resolution, and a 165Hz refresh rate.

Honestly I just want to play fortnite at high FPS. I’m not fussed about 1440. I just need to know whether i need to upgrade a few things or just the graphics card

Some of the newer games are no joke once you crank up the settings.

Really an RTX 2070 or GTX 1080 would be better for 1440P.

An RTX 2080 would be ideal for 1440P.

I think i shall have to try and get in contact with HP to see if I am able to upgrade my PSU because without that I don’t think I’ll be able to upgrade any graphics card

Ok. Then perhaps a 2060 or 1160 Ti (when it’s released)?
