Question Graphics card upgrade

I am looking to replace my old Asus GTX 660 Ti Graphics card

beside that my system:

Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe
Intel i7 3770k
16gb Ram
intel Sata SSD 520 series 240gb + Spinner Data disks
750W PSU

What is the best modern GPU to be looking at considdering the age of the MB
(2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16 or dual x16 or x16/x8/x16 or x16/x8/x8/x8)).

Don't mind buying a card that won't meet its full potential in my system as long as its compatible, but of course throwing a shit load of money at
an older i7 is also a waste.

The system runs fine as is, just want to maximise what I can get out of it, as I am sure some of the cheaper cards today most likely can saturate my system and still be a couple or maybe more times faster than the GTX660 Ti

Any suggestions appreciated

(Also considdering an SSD upgrade .. as my C-drive is like always full ... maybe a Samsung 860 Evo 1tb ? and the intel is nearing its 7 years of age)

rx 580s are about $189 right now. not a bad price for performance. i use one currently and i can max just about any game or close to it at 1080 60+ fps. i just upgraded to a ryzen system but before this i used my rx 580 in a i5 2500k OC to 4.0ghz system and it ran perfectly fine. found some games to botttlneck my cpu but never the GPU

I would go with something like the GTX 1060, since you might not be able to take advantage of the performance of anything more powerful.
You could save some $$ on the SSD by selecting something like this 1TB unit.

What is your monitor's resolution and refresh rate? Does the monitor have FreeSync, GSync, or neither?

EDIT: also, R9 and later AMD cards have issues with some older motherboards if they are not UEFI. That MIGHT be a problem with your motherboard, but I don't know for certain.

Ita a Samsung 27" 1080p 120hz Don't plan on upgrading to 4k right now.
The Mb is Uefi, but I'm a Nvidia guy .. no AMD is getting in my home

Will check what I can get a 1060 for where I live, I remember reading it was around the sweetspot when only running 1080p. GTX1070 or 1080 would be overkill especially with my system, and I think the PSU might have to be raised a bit with those anyway

don't really know the brand of ssd Jojesa suggest, and I know that the Samsung EVO is some of the best ssd's around. just checked out those new 860 entry lvl models and the evo is only 20% more where I live and still fairly cheap for a 1tb unit (about 150 $/Euro)

Well, if you're in the US at least, then expect to pay more for the "privilege" of avoiding AMD while getting the same (or slightly lesser) performance.
