Graphics card woes

So I bought a GTX 560 Ti and popped it in last night...not good news.

Depending the driver version I use, Windows (XP) either hangs on startup (when all the little tray icons are filling in) or I get a blank screen after the Windows loading screen. I have now tried all the WHQL drivers available for the GTX560Ti, so am kinda running out of options. Anyone please help.

Did you put it in the slot closest to your CPU?

Yep, sure did.

Maybe try some of the beta drivers.

I have a hunch that I may have some corrupt video drivers. The guy at the shop told me there is no way to completely uninstall old drivers and that I had to reinstall windows, but does anyone know of alternative treatments?
