Graphics card won't fit on motherboard... External enclosure or long PCIE extension?

I recently bought a Gigabyte MD50-LS0 (http://b2b.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5145#ov) motherboard, with dual Xeon E5-2620, as well as a GTX980 Ti CPU, (this model: http://www.inno3d.com/products_detail.php?refid=202)

I didn't realize how big the card was, nor that the layout of the motherboard prevented its installation. Basically, the ONLY way that it fit is if I completely remove the cooling of CPU0, which is of course impossible...

I'd like to avoid, if possible, changing any of the components.

What would be the best way to make use of it?

Even with a 15cm extension cord, I am not sure I'd be able to make it fit on the MB, and even if it works, it would be very loose inside the case. Could that be very problematic?
I heard longer cables can cause problems, but is there another way? Through an adapter and a thunderbolt cable?

(Unvoluntarily asked this on "Motherboards" instead of "Graphics card" but I can't seem to find a way to delete the question, so I won't duplicate it.)

Thank for your replies.
I don't think the riser card would "rise" it enough to make it fit in the case. Even with a simple 15cm cable, I don't think I could turn it in such a way that it would work. I'll try with a longer cable, but is there any viable solution to put the entire thing outside?
