Hi, I'm upgrading from a gtx 550ti to a gtx 960 G1 but my PC won't boot.
Stuck at the HP screen with 4 beeps (1 beep then 3 quick beeps).

I figured it might be because my mobo/cpu is old.
I'm on an i3-2100 1155 and an Intel H67 mobo.
I've tried updating BIOS and resetting CMOS, still won't work.

Is it that big of a leap from a 550 to a 960?
Is there any way to make it work without having to get a new mobo/cpu?

Solution
Thank you for your replies, appreciate it.
I was on a 675W power supply so that wasn't the problem either.
However, I have fixed my problem by just upgrading my MoBo/CPU haha.

Thanks again.
Ayye I have the exact same GPU and I'm using it to type this now.

First of all, this must be an HP computer, so can you identify what model it is? The beep code tells you what the error is exactly.
Also did the error happen before the BIOS? Because if you did not flash the BIOS correctly you might have corrupted it. :O

Hi, it was a HP Pavilion p6735a Desktop PC BZ535AA.
It just gets stuck on the HP logo at start up then beeps a few seconds later.
And I haven't done anything to the BIOS yet besides update it.

This is a memory error, and you didn't mention that...it could be that it isn't seated properly or maybe damaged (improper seating can cause a short circuit)? Check for improper seating and also, how many dimms are on the motherboard?

I'm currently using my 550ti, and I just do a straight swap to my 960 and it doesn't work.
Haven't touched anything else =\
Could it be incompatibility issues with my mobo and the 960?

Well that already explains some things. Check the wattage of your power supply first of all, but that shouldn't affect boot errors, but most importantly see if you memory is correctly seated and how many sticks of it there are in your PC. HP specifies it as a memory error. Maybe while installing you hit the memory modules accidentally? I don't know but look out for something like this:

Make sure you memory is all the way in just like you would have installed your graphics card. Make sure the tabs on the side have been put into place and as always ground yourself before even touching the computer.

OHHH NOW I SEE WHY. Are you using the stock power supply? Because stock PSU is ONLY 250 watts so if you're still running of that that is why! Upgrade your power supply if you're still running stock! You're computer obviously won't boot with a card like a 960 because the 550ti was one with a low TDP probably explaining why you could run THAT.

Because with low wattage you can get like ANY beep code.

Hmm that's funny, Must have been a motherboard malfunction then...

But I'm glad to hear it's working!
