Usually there is some headroom for overclocking on a GPU before bad things happen. On a desktop if you damage the GPU, you just buy a new GPU. On a laptop if you damage the GPU, you now own a $1000 brick. I wouldn't do it unless you already have money to buy a new one and you don't care about the money you could resell it for.
