Thank you for the answers... i was thinking of upgrading my graphics card and processor... here are my specs:

LC POWER 550W SILENT GREEN POWER PCIe
ASUS P5B CHIPSET 965 SOCKET 775
CORE 2 DUO E6400 2.1GHZ
4 gb memory ddr2-800
Radeon HD 4850 512MB

I am thinking of upgrading my processor to a quad core (Core 2 Quad Q9550, as my motherboard doesnt support the new i3, i5 and i7 processors... and i can get this one cheap cause its old) and was thinking of upgrading my graphics card to a HD 6850 1gb or a GEFORCE GTX 460... but after some research, i saw that the ati has a slight advantage.

i've been told that 550w would handle the graphics card. Any sugestions?

Hmm.. that leaves me a little more uneasy...
When you said you had some doubts of the psu running the gtx460... is it the same with the 6850? Would they both require a new psu? Or just the gtx?

What are exactly the issues with 6000s and the pci-e 1?
And how can i confirm that my psu can run the gtx?

Sorry for all the questions.. i am a little clueless when it comes to hardware.

Forgot to state that i have no intention of overclocking the cards...
Ok i did some research about the 2.1 on 1.0 slots... apearently its a hit and miss and is dependent on the motherboard... while 2.0 works perfectly..

So my options are:

Go with the 6850 and risk it not working on the motherboard..

or

Go with the gtx460 and risk the psu not supplying enough energy..

This is a long shot, but has anybody ever tried a 2.1 graphics card on a P5B (P965)? Or any similar card?

greghome.. i was checking the specifications of the psu... and it seems like it says 19A in each 12V so that would give 38A.
How did you get 24A?
