Been using my home built PC for over a year and enjoying lots of gaming at high if not max settings. Out of nowhere a week ago I started to run into problems. In some games the graphics drivers started to crash. Now it happens in all games EXCEPT Rainbow Six Siege and Player Unknown's Battlegrounds, for some reason these two games won't trigger the issue plaguing all the others on my PC. I'll get a few minutes of game play in and then boom game crash and the game lets me know the graphics drivers either hung or crashed (language varies based on game being played).
So first off system specs. GTX 1080, i7 7700k, 32gb of ram, EVGA 850 P2 psu. Both CPU and GPU run nice and cool so no overheating issues.
Then onto what I have tried. After a half dozen tries of rolling back drivers thinking it might be a bad update with no luck I tried using DDU to clean off the PC of any leftovers before installing a fresh and clean install but still no luck. Though on the contrary that actually introduced it's own unrelated problem tha'ts causing me about as much of a headache as the crashing. One of the Nvcontainer.exe processes causes my PC to run at 100% CPU and continually grows in ram usage as well until I kill the process each time I turn the PC on. Any help with that pain in the butt in addition to my graphics problems would be much appreciated.
Update: Things get weirder still, now when I play Civ 6 the game will crash twice and then be fine the third time I start it up. Every time I restart the computer and try it, this same pattern of two quick crashes and then fine after happens. Also it only crashes while in a game, not on the menus. I can't make any sense of this. Can anyone help me?
If anyone has any questions or anything they'd like me to edit into this post please let me know. I'd really love to squash this problem and move on with my life.
