graphics lags weirdly

So I have had my computer for a few months now and no issues, I woke up this morning and it was fine, ran Arma 3 almost max graphics and no problems as usual, i come back from work and it starts lagging but in a weird way. so when I play arma 3 I get 30 fps constantly other then my usual 60fps and bf4 just lag spikes insanly, at one point I couldent even ctrl alt del to close the rogrammes down it was that laggy (even on my desktop screen). I also updated my graphics drivers and still no change

16gb ram
asrock z87 extreme 4
corsair cx750m
msi gtx 780 TWIN FROZR

Could be something is running in the background. An update, virus scan, malware or virus could do that.

Do you advise any free scanners? i'm currently using AVG free and seeing if that picks anything up

AVG Free is my go to. Be sure it does a very thorough scan. Bugs are good at hiding. Also, check your task manager. Is there any processes in there that look fishy or use way to many resources?
