hi my name is suneel. i just want t know what do the options mean which appears when we go to advanced settings in screen resolution when we right click onn desktop.
so what is the meaning of total available graphics memory,dedicated video memory,systeem video memory,shared system memory.
my total available graphics memory is 6016 mb, dedicated video memory is 3072,system video memory is 0mb,shared system memory is 2944mb.can i increase dedicatd video memory????

plz help!!!!.thanks in advance
 
You cannot increase actual dedicated video memory unless you buy a new GPU with more RAM. While the numbers do mean something, the only thing that should really matter to you is the model of GPU you are using. A high end GPU will have good performance and a low end GPU will have poor performance regardless of how the memory is set. Windows automatically does a great job of balancing memory for maximum performance. Almost all modern GPUs are designed with a proper balance of just enough memory for the performance they can provide.

What GPU are you using and is there some specific problem you are dealing with?
 
Dedicated video memory = actual VRAM on your GPU that is only used by your GPU
System video memory = regular RAM reserved for use by a GPU (and thus not available for your system)
Shared system memory = regular RAM that is available for either your system or GPU
Total available = the sum of all of these

For most people, the only one that matters for performance is dedicated video memory. This is built into a GPU and can only be changed by replacing the GPU.
