I have finally got myself a great computer but am having trouble with fps on many games like bf4, borderlands 2 and dayz standalone and some others.

My specs:
Amd fx 8350
Asus sabertooth 990fx
2 way sli asus 770's
16gb 1866mhz patriot viper ram
ssd
antec 850w modular psu

I built the computer myself so it is possible I made a mistake somewhere but I think it cant be too bad because the pc works.

Bf4 gets 60 fps on medium with and without sli.

10-30 fps on very low settings dayz

Borderlands 2 maxed out can drop to 10 fps but is normally at about 150.

I have a friend with a 7850 who gets better performance than me in many games.

Solution
No one should ever get an AMD CPU over Intel if your going to rock high end GPUs or SLI/CF. I learned that lesson when my 6300 throttled the hell out of my r9 290. I got pissed and went out to buy a i5 4570 the next day and my FPS skyrocketed to 70-90. It's a cpu bottleneck for sure.
BF4 might be capping at 60fps if Vsync is on, make sure to turn it off and see how much fps you get.

Your video cards could be overheating and throttling down for protection thus giving you a lower performance than expected.

While the FX-8350 is a great CPU, you'll be able to see in every review that an Intel i5 will give more FPS with the same GTX 770 (difference grows a lot when i5 is OCed and paired with 2x GTX 770s).

Your friend could be playing with different settings (lower resolution, texture details etc) hence getting higher framerates.

ok, vsync was off, the cards were at 68 C when running ultra BF4 settings (i turned it up to see, there was massive fps increase then massive fps drop)

My friend runs ultra 1080p everything max with 7850 gets 60 fps. i get 30-40fps with sli 770.

Lastly, my friend has an intel cpu as you mentioned, however i really dont want to fork out another 600 dollars at least to get an intel cpu. Thank you very much for your help.

The max safe temp for the cores are 62C, so you might be experiencing thermal throttling. So I would highly suggest getting an aftermarket cooler (something like a Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo, it's quite cheap). If you already have one, I suggest you re-seat your cooler and apply fresh thermal paste. Even if this turns out not to be the problem, I would highly suggest you get the cooler anyway, since those temps are not safe.

A CPU bottleneck does not explain Battlefield 4 maxing at 60FPS. (I have an 8320 and I regularly get over 60 FPS). It also does not explain 10(!) FPS in Borderlands.
