Hi,

I am experiencing a problem with my pc that must be graphics related. Last night, i was playing a game that ive played for 250+ hours. The game crashed, complete with buzzing noise through the speakers and this screen:

d9yRM

Now i cannot boot windows. If i try to boot normally i get the bios, windows symbol and spinning circle, dark screen just before windows boots, then a fully green screen with no error message that does not respond. I can boot into safe mode fine.

I need some advice. Ive tried a number of things but i think ive got a hardware issue that goes beyond roling back drivers etc. Essentially, is there something i could try or should i just replace/upgrade my old amd5800. My pc is five years old this year, should i just start again and buy something new?

All advice appreciated!

Solution
You can do that :) I just want you to be aware that you could probably save the GPU with the procedure listed above (if you'd like).

Good luck with your new build!

This problem could be your GPU. You'd have to remove it first and see how the system runs then.

If you're still experiencing problems, I would be suspicious of the PSU or the of the OS (although corruption of the OS is unlikely).

If the problems don't persist following the removal, then it is probably the GPU. What you could try and do is launch any browser and get DDU (http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html) to uninstall the current drivers on your card (your card will need to be connected to the system). After that, you'll need to find the last stable drivers for your GPU and install those.

Following all this, see if your system works as intended. If not, this could be a more severe hardware problem - which I would recommend upgrading/replacing (considering it's age).

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to uninstall all drivers/ disable the video card first and see if I can boot. If so, I'll roll back to old drivers and try the gpu. If it's no good, I'll dig up a decent video card and install to see what happens. If still nothing, I'll just do a full on replacement of the computer.

I guess I should just start again but $$$

How can I test power in a reliable way?

If none of the attempts at changing out the hardware/drivers work, I would recommend trying a clean install of Windows if possible. If you can't/doesn't work I would then recommend testing the PC with a different PSU.

I'm not 100% sure on any ways to test a PSU - for myself I just have a couple sitting off the side that I know work. If I have suspicions I just switch them out. Lots of times, if it were the PSU, then a Windows Error would appear indicating that there is a problem with the power supply.

Thanks again for the reply.

I've taken the video card out now and booted into windows without an issue. Clearly, the video card is screwed. I'm going to use this opportunity to build my own PC for the first time. I've replaced parts a number of times. It's probably time to do the whole thing myself!

Thanks for all of your support.
