Question Grinding noise comes and goes, sometimes crashes

My computer's fan, on occasion, makes a noise like it might be vibrating, however, this only happens a few times every 6 months or so and sometimes it crashes when it happens. My computer is an old vostro, originally ran windows 7 (now 10), and uses an i5 core. I'm wondering if it has to do with the age of the fan and if it's because it's old and needs to be replaced.

Which specific fan?

However have you inspected inside the case and/or do some cleaning?
