Is the Geforce GT 1030 compatible with an h61m-p23 (b3) motherboard and how is this determined (so I may be able to answer other similar questions for myself in the future)?

Solution
Many GT1030 don't work with a legacy bios. Starting with the 700 series, nvidia switched to UEFI vbios primarily, so only the 600 series and older are plug and play. Some cards do support legacy bios, but it's all dependent on the manufacturer and model.

So the card may or may not work on a h61 chipset, it was mostly the Z68 where the bios was changed to uefi, although some boards built later did contain a uefi bios. Prebuilts were the worst offenders since they ran a proprietary legacy bios, sometimes well into 4th gen, 8x series pc's.
