i HAVE AN HP COMPAQ PRO 4300SSF
I bought a gt 1030 for it and put it into the pci slot.
I do not have a dvi-d for it yet so used the onboard graphics with my gt 1030 still in pc but not connected to moniter
when i boot pc moniter gets no signal although plugged to onboard

Solution
its because you connected the 1030 to your PC which disabled the onboard video. there is no way to know if it will work with your PC yet until you have that dvi-d cable to connect it

it its the only way to connect your monitor to a display then yes. one thing to note though is other issues may come up like the power supply in your PC may be of low quality or too weak which is common with brand name computers. also if that computer doesn't have the newer UEFI BIOS which was not standard when your computer was released the card may not work because the NVIDIA 10 series are known not to work with the older legacy BIOS
