Before you guys come up with suggestions of hd 7770. I wanna tell u something.
We own pc .First one with gtx 960. 2nd one with HD 6850.
And now the third one with gtx 650ti.
For the pc which has gtx 650ti boost I want to replace it with low end reason for this is my younger brother bought this card without asking me and it is purely 3.0 pci-e and not showing display on Asus p5g41 t mlx 2.0 slot.
While it gives display on 3.0 slot motherboard. I am going to sale gtx 650ti boost for 110$. I saw a guy selling gt 640 oem 1gb ddr5 (80gb/s bandwidth) for 35$.
So should I go for this card? He only wants to play dota 2 Csgo team fortress on 720p. He just wants game to run. I don't have voltage stabilizer for that pc so I got him eco friendly psu.
Is gt 640 gddr5 is good against gt 440 which I can get for 25$??
Gt 640 has dx 12.
I only play games after every three months for 1 week straight and I can easily play games on gtx 960 pc.

For specs : core 2 quad q6600
4gb ddr3 ram
Enermax 400w eco friendly psu.

Solution

poorly

you would want something like a gtx 750 ti

if you want decent fps then a core 2 quad is not gonna cut it

the reason the 650 ti doesnt work could be mobo drivers not up to date or the crap 400w

you want at least a decent 450w

pcie 3.0 is backwards compatible

get the 640, ddr3 sucks for gaming

OK the reason gtx 650ti boost is not working because it is not backward compatible (not all Nvidia cards are backward compatible :statement by Nvidia (india) technical support staff. I tried it on Intel dh55 motherboard with fsp 600w psu still no display. I tried it on low end Asus p8h61 mlx 2 (pci-e 3.0) and it worked. I tried it on 5 different systems with pcie 2.0 in gaming zone still no display. Card is not giving backward compatibility as stated by NVIDIA.

where the mobo bios up to date on the 2.0 mobos?

plenty of 2.0 mobos run 3.0 cards fine

Yeah it was up to date. Latest was released in 2012. I tweaked all possible options in bios and answer was big "NNOOO" by the way you can't expect old motherboards manufactured in 2009 to run cards of 2016. Yes "Amd and Asus" in a giveaway stream stated that few rx 480 would not run on 2.0 which clears all doubts. Anyhow I m selling this gpu. Do you consider gt 640 gddr5 (80gb/s) a good choice for above mentioned 3 games? 720p resolution actually.

dota2, yes

csgo, yes

a potato can run those games

I want decent frames for these games to see special cosmetics effects. Spell effects in team fights sometimes brings R9 270x to his knees.
BTW if he wants to try gta V on 720p resolution then how this card would perform?
