Hello there,

I have an GT 740M notebook graphics card.
My specs are 8b ram and i7, windows 8.1.
I think that i should get decent fps in games with this specs, but i dont.
Even gta san andreas is lagging..
I dont know what to do, i have tried everything, like reinstall drivers, format my pc..
Anybody an idea what might be the problem?

Thanks in advance,

Karsten

Hey Karsten, what fps are we talking here? Take san andreas, are we looking at 10fps? 30fps? Can you be more specific please. I had a Lenovo laptop with i5, 6gb of ram and a gt740m. Is yours a Lenovo laptop? If the fps is extremely low then it may be a problem with your hardware because I remember getting decent FPS in almost all games except top end games e.g. DayZ or BF4. Also, what anti virus are you using? Some anti virus programs can use the CPU heavily without you knowing doing background scans e.t.c. Try disabling it before you load up the games. Have you updated to the latest drivers with GeForce Experience? Download it from here:

Has this always been a problem ever since you got the laptop? Is the laptop well-ventilated whilst playing games and does it get very hot? If it does overheat or get excessively hot then it throttles back to prevent damage to itself, reducing frame rate. As you have formatted and the game still does not run optimally then it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that something is wrong with the laptop. Do you know what model of i7 you have? Some i7's run on less than 2Ghz which could be a reason for the lower FPS. 8GB of RAM seems good and that GPU is fairly solid.
