GTA 4 crashing while driving during second mission

Hi
I got GTA 4 the other day for pc from steam and when I try to do the second mission where you have to drive Roman to the poker game it crashes while I am driving there

my specs:
XFX 7850 1gb GPU,
A8-6500 3.5Ghz CPU,
8 gigs 1600mhz RAM,
windows 8.1

Can anyone help me?

not sure if steam updates it automatically but, have you downloaded the patch?

Steam usually updates games automatically, so the most recent patch should already be installed.

To the OP: Are there any error messages when GTA IV crashes, or does it just dump you straight to desktop?

Basically it will all of a sudden freeze then it will go to a black background but you can seen the task bar on the bottom of the screen and a box pops up and it says "Grand Theft Auto IV has stopped working" then it tries to get information on what happened

I'm not very familiar with Windows 8.1, but is there a "Details" option on that window? That should list the specific error that caused the crash.

I can make the game crash again then give the error

So it turns out that there is no "Details" button when the game crashes. But after looking around I came up on something about a memory leak and this could be a factor. But I was able to get past that part of the game and it crashed on the mission after that one now 🙁. Also could the texture settings be a factor? Im on "high" could that be making it crash?
