I have contacted Rockstar support a total of 5 times. Although they were friendly and useful, they have exhausted all possible fixes of which none have worked. I am praying that you guys can shine some new advice down on me.

With over 1000 hours played of this game, I'll be very gutted if I can't get it to work. I have been trying to fix it for two weeks solid, pretty much.

I get the same error every single time:

Things I have tried so far:

  • Unplugging all USB ports except from a plain mouse and keyboard.
  • Stopping everything in ms-config apart from Windows services.
  • Turning off all start up services in task manager.
  • Deleting and reinstalling usb drivers.
  • Clean install of graphics drivers.
  • Clean install of GTA on different hardrives.
  • Deleting settings files and having the game recreate them.
  • Verifying Steam cache a million times.
  • Starting GTA in safe mode on lowest possible graphics.
  • Checking and fixing all Windows system files.
  • Making a second windows user profile with admin permissions.
  • Setting GTA to launch with admin privileges in compatibility mode Windows 7.
  • Clean install of GTA with Steam start with admin privileges.
  • Making sure GTA has access through Windows firewall.
  • Making sure the router has relevant ports open.

Possible Ideas I have left:

Fresh install of Windows 10
Resetting Bios
Buying a hammer and then a new PC setup :)

If we are truly in the brightest timeline, then someone out there knows how to fix this.

Soo... I think I fixed it (at least for me): I had several internet filters installed to block ads, spam, etc. I disabled all of them and the game doesn't crash anymore.
For example:
  • cleared/deleted host file
  • used a not-filtering DNS Server (like the one from Google and not the one from my internet provider, pi.hole, etc.)
  • disabled all safety filters in router/FRITZ!Box
  • disabled vpn (or using not-filtering)
  • ...
Is this solution still working for you? Anyway you can go into more details? I am not sure how to get to most of those settings.

Good to know i'm not alone, but sad anyway. I am get same problem here.

I tried everything too. Reinstall, change settings, turn on compatibility, everything.

The error occurs between 15 minutes and 30. If it doesn't happen at this time, it happens around 50 minutes.

I'm trying Rockstar support, but to no success.

Ill do some testing again, may get around to install/dual booting Win10.

Is anyone or know of, on Win7 this is happening to?

Check priority levels for any process associated with gta5 hasn't increased.

Try disable UAC

User Account Control could be getting involved preventing gta5 doing something out of the ordinary. Conspiracy guess, could be a different way of scanning for cheats/mods. UAC may be shutting it down and game along with it.

Not sure if this helps at all, but i've been having this problem myself too.

I spoke to Rockstar support 5 times over the course of 2 days, they told me to do everything that's been mentioned in pretty much every forum and website i've looked at.

I have discovered though, the game works fine when you play in offline mode, it's only when connected to the internet it's crashing and i've saw a few people saying the same thing.

I hope this helps someone find a solution.

I am also in contact with the Rockstar support for several days now. I tried so many things they have told me but nothing has fixed it yet...

Offline mode is not an option for me because I am only playing GTA Online. :/

Hi,
I had to join this forum to try and help.

I have been playing GTA for a short while on PC migrating from Xbox but, up until last week I have had no issues with crashes but then crashes started after a short period of starting the game, sometimes a few minutes and sometimes 10 to 15 mins, my PC had only just been started so heat didn't seem to be the issue. I was getting the same event log as everyone seems to be getting on this post.
I decided to give the game a rest for a few days and concentrate on my day job. I came back to it today(Sat) and found that the same issues were occurring, but more frequently. I had been running and I/E run and the game just crashed out after picking up a vehicle, this was very annoying, to say the least, so I started surfing to find a solution, I came upon this post.
Before posting a possible solution, I needed to ensure that I didn't look too much of a fool. I have tested the following 3 times, I had been playing non-stop for at 90 min without an issue so I logged out and then restarted the game still the same 90 mins so restarted my PC and I am still playing after 2 hours.

MY SOLUTION
I decided to check out the game settings. I opened the menu and browsed to the advanced graphics section. At the end of the list, there is an option to reset everything to default so I clicked this, then browsed to the graphics section and found the same option, the game then kicks you from the session you are in and restarts the game.

I hope this works for you.

Look me up if you would like to play in a session

My solution for this problem:

Run GTA V on your internal graphics unit. GTA V is stable and playable on 800 x 600 pixels, everything set to minimum.

I contacted Rockstar Support for over 3 weeks and did change the GPU from a gtx 970 to a rtx 2060 super - no changes in crashing.

I know, this is not a good solution, but right now, I am able to play the story without encountering crashes.

Hello guys, quick update here.

I've have also just upgraded to a rtx2060super from a gtx 770 (2gb version) but still crashes.

But i did find out that its more stable if i run at a lower res 1440x900 instead of the 2660x1440 i would like to run it at.

the last thing R* support told me to do was to changing my operating system language (they recommend trying U.S. English) and that didnt help at all.

THE CONTROL

I have a 2080ti, 9900k, 32gb of 3200 ram and GTA 5 is installed on an SSD. All this in a Thermaltake tower 900 with 2 560mm rads.

I do not use a VPN. I do not have mods installed. I do not install ANYTHING on my gaming PC aside from Steam, Origins, Epic, Blizzard and MSI afterburner. I dont even surf the net on my gaming PC, AND I do a clean windows install twice a year.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, my PC is the perfect control in the experiment when testing for variables.

Since several days after the casino update (IMMEDIATELY after the horse glitch hotfix) I have been experiencing CONSTANT crashing in GTAV.

I can play for 10-20 minutes then the game crashes. This is consistent. I've tried uninstalling MSI afterburner. I've tried underclocking my card. I have tried every permutation of Nvidia control panel settings possible. Nothing short of playing single player offline works.

Rockstar broke something when they hastily patched the horse racing glitch. Their customer support can't help you and they certainly won't admit it. It doesn't matter if it broke your game or not, it was more important for them to stop players from making extra money then it was for you to have a playable game.

The only option we have is there hope they properly test their next update before they deploy it

Yep, found blocking GTAV.exe in Windows Firewall stops the game from crashing. Obviously not a solution for online players, but at least confirms the problem is in Rockstar's borked netcode.

Guys... i tried everything like you guys did and it still crashes, i thought i fixed this by going back to the previous nvidia graphics driver but after 2 hours it crashed and it usually crashes in missions...

im completely stumped... this HAS to be a GTA 5 bug, i dont know what else to test

So I've also been encountering these frequent crashes since the Casino update, everything Rockstar support have suggested to try hasn't helped to fix the issue (basically everything stated by others above).

I am also using an Nvidia card on my PC (GTX980), and on my Laptop (900M Series), though I don't seem to encounter the crashes when playing on my laptop, so not sure if this is purely an Nvidia card issue or not.

I'm getting the same issue. All my other games work fine but GTA has crashing after10-20 minutes since after the casino update. I recently got a new pc set up this week and again on this new pc same issue and it's an entirely different video card and setup. All other games I play work fine. Most of my friends are having the same issues except the ones who have not updated their Nvidia drivers. I could roll back but the newest NVidia driver fixed an sli issue with Borderlands 3, so hopefully, Rockstar just fixes this.
