I have been trying to play GTA III but it is giving me loadsa problems. I have already updated the graphics card drivers, and whilst the performance has improved, the actual game crashes within the space of ten seconds. I am forced to reset the PC using the reset button and I am returned to my desktop at the same resolution as I had in the game (800x600)

Also the sound is really getting my back up. My sound card can support EAX Advanced HD/3 but I can't hear any gunshot sounds from my character - I can hear ambient effects but I don't hear any sounds that come from the character - I can when I change the sound system to Miles 2D audio - but why should I have only stereo sound when the game is capable of 6.1!!

I have already tried contacting Take Two interactive and Rockstar Games but their email adresses are as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Thanks for your help

GTA 3 is the one of the buggiest games out there. I remember having to install some kind of windows update file (though not from window's update but from M$'s website) kb-"something". It solved some graphics problems but also might solve crashes.
As for 6.1 audio - I really think you're asking way too much from this game, maybe if you play Vice City things would work better.

POST is way overrated, the black screen and beeps should be enough for most people.

GTA3 is the buggiest game I've ever played. Focus on real gameplay (which is very good) and you'll not miss the 6.1 audio much.

buggy only begins to describe it, mate. of all ive talked to, i seem to have had the most luck running GTAIII and i was never able to save a single game.

BUGS! ick.

What file did you download from Microsoft and where exactly is it. The Microsoft website is huge so some clear instructions or hyperlinks would be really useful.

With rgards to 6.1 audio I am not asking too much from this game as it specifically says EAX Advanced HD - I have spent £160 on my Audigy 2 and Inspire 6700 setup so that I can enjoy DVDs that support Dolby Digital EX and for that unfair advantage in games!

I'll be getting vice city pretty soon don't worry

I would have taken it right out of my ICQ history if I hadn't formatted 4 times and switched computers since I last played gta3. All I can tell you is that I remember it seemed to have nothing to do with the game or 3d graphics at all (helps, huh...) and yet it solved me a lot of problems. Try a google search or something.

You won't find it by searching MS as you don't know what to search for.

GTA3 1.1 patch solves savegame related issue
