GTA IV Steam Key Not Working?

I've had the game for awhile and have actually played it when I got it, but I uninstalled it due to the "GTA IV has stopped working" error. I have been really wanting to play it lately so I reinstalled it and when it came time for me to put in my serial key, it wouldn't work. The way I got my key was from right clicking GTA IV and clicking on "View CD Key," is this the same thing? If not, where can I find my serial number for it? I also tried to open GFWL but it says there is a connection problem, and I can't open it, even though I have a perfectly fine internet connection. Can someone please help?

uninstall gfwl and download the latest version from microsofts marketplace. http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/LIVE/PC
as for the key it will either be on the game box/instruction book/cd you bought. if you got it free with hardware it will be on the coupon that came with the hardware. if you bought it off steam there will be an email with the key normally sent to your steam email account.
also be aware that keys will often use not use the letter O but instead use 0 (zero) and lower case L can often look like a 1. so make sure you typed it in correctly... if that fails you can always email steam and ask them to send you your key.

The thing is I got the game almost a year ago. So I don't have to email anymore.

And also as far as the GFWL update, now whenever I try to open it it just has the thing that pops up before it opens and it eventually closes.

Not sure. I thought I read something about MS shutting the service down. I don't have any games that use it and not sure I remember the story right.

thats games for windows live mate... there not shutting steam down lol...
just sign into steam on your browser and then use the help tab and select support. from there you can talk to a steam rep and sort your key issue.
