A friend has been having *extreme* rubber banding and lag with GTA Online, making it essentially unplayable. We initially thought it might be a network issue, though that all checked out.
But after watching resources while playing, we find the CPU is almost maxing out often - spiking in the upper 90th percentile, when the rubber banding occurs. There were at least a couple incidents of the disk being near 100% as well, but that seemed to be near startup, perhaps when things were loading? The CPU usage is consistent throughout play.
The laptop is an HP ENVY m7-n101dx Notebook, which uses a 2.4GHz i7-5500U, which, while I don't know much about it, gets a pretty good rating ("CPU Boss" for example, gives overall performance an 8.6/10). The Passmark # is 3998, for what that's worth. And 'Game Debate' site lists it as a CPU that does meet at least the min specs fro GTA 5 ( http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=1308&canMyCpuRunIt=Grand%20Theft%20Auto%20V )
They have cranked all of the graphical settings down to near if not minimum, reduced population in game, etc., with no effect.
So, what would cause a seemingly 'ok' CPU (at least adequate for this game), to be brought to its knees and make this game unplayable? Any ideas would be much appreciated, we'd love to play! It's been just impossible. Thanks.
